In Memory of 'Rascal'

For years I asked my Artist friend, Arlene..."please let me do a portrait of Rascal.  It's too hard after they're gone!"  Well, finally Rascal goes to Doggie Heaven and she agrees.  Yep....as I said, it's really emotional when they are gone.  He was a wonderful companion and friend to her!!

Hempel 'Bootcamp' (8/21-8/24/14)

So much fun (and work)...as usually.  This was the seventh year but really a great time. Attending were Carolyn Larkin, Rick Brawner, Linda Cutler, Mike McCabe and Karen DeNoto.

I had discovered some new and very challenging locations for us to go to paint.  Thursday we painted at Chippewa Resort in the morning (just Jim, Carolyn and I) and then the whole group painted at the Blue Bayou to get a vision of The Island on Manitowish Lake.  Friday we spent the entire day at Coon's Franklin Lodge (including a delicious lunch!) and Saturday we drove an hour and a quarter to Bonds Falls.  It's a beautiful place but SO difficult to paint rushing water!!  We took a picnic lunch to give us a break around mid-day.
Here are a few of my group pix and paintings...

'Betty the Beetle'

'Betty' is a new addition to our Marco Family.  She will continue to reside in Florida so I did her portrait to keep in Milwaukee!  She is quite a good model!!

Door County Plein Air Workshop (May)

I finally got my chance to go to Door County to paint.  (Not sure how I missed posting this???)  We were a small group but we had Jim to help us.  I got to stay at Rick Brawner's home which was great fun!!  I'd love to do it again!!!!  I've been working on using larger panels when outdoors....

Winter in Florida is wrapping up!!

I always have mixed emotions when we get to this time of year....pack it up and head back to Wisconsin!  It takes all winter to figure out how to mix the colors of the ocean!!
Here are a couple of this weeks paintings....I might get one more in this weekend before we head home on Monday!

....and now, the University of Wisconsin, Marching Band!!

I did this charcoal with pastel as a birthday gift for an old friend from college. (I guess this would officially be called 'Mixed Media'!)   We attended UW together back in the 70's and have been great friends ever since!

It's always a special moment during a football game when the Band takes the field.....

This was a very different project for me but SO much fun to do!!  I was very pleased with the outcome and I think my buddy liked it too!!

Winding down our Winter in Paradise!

We've had a wonderful winter in Marco Island.  As we wind down and begin to plan to head back to the North country, I wanted to update this Blog for the latest paintings.  I was fortunate to participate in 2 shows this season called, "Paint and Brush'.  As the name suggests, they were only for 'paintings'!  I sold 6 pieces as a result of this new opportunity!!
